Last Thursday, I joined fellow design lovers in celebrating the launch of AphroChic's new book, Remix. Perhaps my favorite aspect of the Remix story is that it's truly a family affair. Not only is the book co-authored by real-life, married couple Jeanine Hayes and Bryan Mason, but Jeanine’s sister, Angela, helped style the shoots while brother-in-law Leon captured the Remix experience via video (See his work here). So talented and about the most genuine people you could ever meet! Yep. I’m an unapologetic fan of the AphroChic clan. Pick up their new book and you’ll be smitten too.

Out and About: Jonathan Adler Georgetown

The happiest (or happy chicest) place in the District

Last month, I took a long overdue trip to DC's Jonathan Adler store, one of the newest additions to Georgetown's design scene. My visit was well worth the wait. The staff had just restyled the floor and proudly assured me that this was the best it had looked since November's opening.

The store, indeed, was a feast for the eyes: pops of color, bold patterns, and plucky witticisms among Jonathan's signature ceramics and furniture vignettes. It's unlike anything DC has seen, and as a longtime resident, I can assure you we need it! JA is the perfect addition to a city that can sometimes take itself too seriously. With iPhone in hand, I captured some pics of why Adler's shop may be the happiest place in the District.

Located in the heart of Georgetown, the store makes some adjustments to reflect that neighborhood and the city as a whole. But aside from an extra helping of George Washington pillows and a few other additions, the shop has all the spunk of Jonathan's style, something which he describes in three simple words: style, craft, and joy.

"Georgetown’s style is WASPy Chic – traditional meets modern, and fresh, fresh, fresh. I think of classic American style with an updated twist, which my collection perfectly captures." - Jonathan Adler

Out and About: A Quick Trip to DC's And Beige

There are some stores you visit when you know exactly what you want and some when you haven't a clue. The latter would be And Beige, an eclectic emporium of luxe furniture and accessories in northwest DC. Like a vintage shop, you never know what you’ll find! The floor constantly changes and there are options for every taste. Here's a peek at what I discovered on a recent visit.

My favorite thing: the super cute Laurent Chair. It's available in different fabrics and finishes but I'd gladly take this one right off the floor! And Beige also offers a range of Shagreen furniture, like the bedside tables below.

Impulse buy: Voluspa candles. I simply can't get enough. Cotton wicks, coconut wax, and beautiful packaging for $33. I bought two but will certainly return for more.

Of course, the C. Jere-like wall art (above) was right up my alley. Not only are they great for hanging, but they work well in tablescapes, too. Next time, And Beige. Next time.
