I talk about my journey from private audio journaling to deciding it was finally time to let my voice be part of my creative work. This episode explains why podcasting felt like the natural next step in bringing you closer to who I really am.

This is a preview of The Refined Life, your guide to mastering the art of minimalist luxury.

I'm having so much fun planning and plotting The Refined Life Podcast, but I wanted to take a moment to give you a bit of the background. Now, throughout the year, I have been using voice memo a lot. I love to record thoughts in real time as they come to me, and then I come back to those recordings and create a blog post, an Instagram post, or a Substack newsletter. So this idea of marrying my articulated words with my written words has been in development for over a year now. This all stems from me starting audio journaling a few years ago, which has been an absolute game-changer for me. Definitely will speak about it in a future episode of the podcast, but expressing yourself out loud can have such a dramatic effect on your moods, your thoughts, how you feel about a particular situation. I am a big fan of giving your emotions actual words, which is what you're forced to do when you speak out loud.

So as I've been speaking for myself in audio journals or creating memos as the basis of content for The Refined Life and on Sukio.com, I realized that it's a medium worth exploring. It's a medium that I enjoy, and most importantly, it helps give you an idea of who I am. I have been highly secretive, I will admit it, for my Sukio career. Some people have no idea what I even look like. I started blogging back in the 2010s. I never had pictures of myself on my website, nor did I talk much about my personal life. But that was okay because the subject matter at the time was strictly design and fashion and culture. I didn't really have to insert a lot of myself in there.

Now this is a more personal endeavor, and I'm speaking to things that are happening to me and I'm sharing what I'm learning throughout the process. And I want people to at least have some sense of who I am. And so when you read the subtly sarcastic Instagram post, you can now put a voice with those words.

That is how I landed upon creating a podcast. It's a way of better connecting with others. And I hope that it provides food for thought as you navigate the day-to-day.
