Preview 02: Slow Down, Decide Better
When everything feels urgent, the instinct is to do more—but more motion rarely brings clarity. This episode shows how creating small margins lets you name the real problem and choose a calmer, more effective response.

Throughout my minimalism journey, I discovered a very deep connection between having less, doing less, and mental health. I often say: minimalism creates margin, and margin creates meaning. What margin also creates is clarity.
When you clear space in your life, you give yourself room to be introspective and to actually see what’s happening. That clarity helps you notice the difference between useful guidance and the constant noise—voices and chatter, a lot of self-help advice that isn’t really relevant to your situation or could simply be wrong.
When we’re busy, when we’re putting out fires and don’t have time to fully understand what problem we’re even solving, we become more susceptible to other people’s opinions. Remember, the self-help industry is an industry; it targets people who need help and who are willing to be introspective. That means a lot of advice is aimed at you, but not all of it is for you.
What I learned is how to separate the wisdom I truly need from the noise of the world around me.
Margin gives you the space to test what’s true for you. It lets you slow down long enough to ask: is this advice solving my problem, or someone else’s? That question changes everything.
So here’s the reminder I want to give you and myself: slow down during crisis. Don’t speed up. When everything feels urgent, the instinct is to do more—read more, act faster, try every solution. But speeding up often multiplies confusion, while slowing down creates clarity. It lets you name the real problem before you try to fix it.
If you want something practical to try right now, start small. Block ten minutes in your day to sit quietly without your phone. Breathe. Notice what’s actually happening. Then ask one clarifying question out loud: what am I trying to solve? Say the answer. Naming the problem makes the solution clearer.
Meanwhile, limit incoming advice. Choose one trusted source or one trusted person instead of letting a dozen voices pull you in different directions. Protect that margin like you would protect anything important—because it is important. Margin is not laziness; it’s a tool for better decisions.
When you protect space, you protect your ability to think. You protect your mental health. You protect the chance to act with intention rather than reaction. That’s where meaning shows up—not in frantic motion, but in clear, deliberate choice.
So slow down during crisis. Don’t speed up. Give yourself the silence and the margin to hear what you actually need.
