Finding Meaning and Margin in a World That Demands So Much

Carving out margin in your life isn't an escape, but the essential groundwork for finding your peace and offering your best.

It feels like a common sentiment these days. With so much happening in the world that’s beyond our individual control, many of us are looking inward. There is a growing desire to find ways to make a meaningful impact, cultivate a sense of peace, and reclaim some agency within our own lives. It was with this very much in mind that I felt compelled to write my book, Worthwhile & Worth Having, now.

Perhaps it's not immediately obvious how an approach that weds minimalist principles with an appreciation for quality (i.e., minimalist luxury) connects to this larger search for meaning. But for me, the connection is crystal clear. So many of the societal pressures we navigate, the hoops we're encouraged to jump through regarding success, busyness, and possessions, can start to feel hollow when faced with genuine global challenges. Things that once seemed paramount can lose their urgency.

This moment offers us a profound opportunity to reflect on what we truly need in life. What genuinely brings us joy? What provides that unshakable peace of mind, that solid foundation from which we can then go out and contribute positively to the world around us? By consciously choosing to simplify and let go of unnecessary burdens and external validations, we create margin. This isn't just about decluttering our homes. We must declutter every aspect of our day-to-day to make space for what is most essential and impactful.

Let’s manage our lives not to accumulate more, but to build a resilient foundation for well-being and purposeful action.
